Duchenne is a type of Muscular Dystrophy disorder that primarily affects male children and at the moment is 100% fatal because there is no cure. Cadillac is honored to help spread awareness about Duchenne throughout the month of February. In October of 2011 Team CureDuchenne took part in Team Escalade Texas and competed with five other charities throughout Texas for a $150K media package. After a month long journey and lots of hard work Team CureDuchenne was announced the grand prize winner.Cure Duchenne#cureduchenne
CureDuchenne is a nonprofit organization that funds research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. CureDuchenne is leading the charge to find a cure for Duchenne, a devastating muscular disease that affects 300,000 boys worldwide. Boys with Duchenne are usually diagnosed by the age of five, in a wheelchair by age 12 and most don’t live past their mid-20s. CureDuchenne focuses on targeted research projects to accelerate the clinical trial process and brings potential life-saving drugs to help this generation of Duchenne boys. Currently there is no cure, but for the first time there is hope that the current research may result in treatments which will greatly improve the lives of Duchenne boys. Together we can cure Duchenne.

About Duchenne
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the most common lethal genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood, a genetic disease that causes muscles to die and not regenerate. Symptoms usually appear in male children before the age of 5 because the gene fault that causes DMD is found on the “X” chromosome. DMD affects approximately 1 in 3,500 boys and each year, around 20,000 children worldwide are born with DMD. Many will not survive their teenage years; this disorder knows no ethnic or social boundaries.
DMD Research
Cure Duchenne brings a different perspective to DMD research. DMD is an “orphan” disease meaning that pharmaceutical companies do not invest in bringing cures to market because the number of potential patients does not make it profitable enough. Despite the disease’s devastating impact on those affected, Duchenne research is severely under-funded. Many diseases that affect a smaller number of patients than Duchenne receive more in funding. For example, The National Institutes of Health indicate that Pediatric AIDS received $262 million for research in 2007. Duchenne, by comparison, received only $23 million despite affecting more individuals than Pediatric AIDS. In spite of far too little funding for this fatal disease, several research projects are yielding initial success in laboratory animals and now in human patients. The potential exists to make a marked difference in the quality of life in Duchenne patients, perhaps even curing this destructive disease affecting thousands of boys and their families.
What Donations Do for CureDuchenne
The funds CureDuchenne raises support the most promising research projects aimed at treating and curing the disease with help from its distinguished panel of Scientific Advisors from around the world.
To date, seven research projects have made their way into human clinical trials with support from CureDuchenne. This accelerated push to move research from the lab into clinical trials could save the lives of those afflicted and halt progress of the disease. Very few health-related nonprofits are as successful in being a catalyst for human clinical trials. CureDuchenne works tirelessly to bring awareness to the disease through extensive outreach, promotions and celebrity endorsements.
